Capt. John Rudzin moved to the Florida Keys 10 years ago from Petersburg,
Virginia. He quit his 13 year job with Allied Signal, sold his home, packed up
all his possessions and towed his 25' Tiara Pursuit named the "Hot Pursuit" to
Marathon, Florida and has never looked back.
He started off slow, running his charter-boat business on the weekends while
working full time as a rental boat mechanic. A short time later, John decided
it was time to give his own business his full attention. With the support of
his wife Phyllis, he established himself in the charter boat business and
built a reputation as a "Dolphin Chaser." In 1992, he had the "Met" record
for largest overall dolphin (63 lb). Another memorable catch was the 67 lb
Kingfish caught in 1995.
His goal of getting a bigger boat was realized in 1993 when he bought and
rebuilt a 34 ft. Hatteras which he named the Capt. J.R.
Another goal he set 10 years ago when he first came to the Keys was to move
his operation to the Holiday Isle Marina. Since coming to the Isle in 1997,
Capt. J.R. has been impressed with the professionalism of the captains and
mates, and feels that Holiday Isle and Islamorada give the term "Sportfishing
capital of the world." true meaning.
